GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman Brendan Gielow was one of 20 named to the Academic All-ACC Men's Golf Team, announced Thursday by league commissioner John Swofford.
Five golfers who earned All-Conference honors this past season also secured spots on the team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Gielow played in 11 of Wake Forest's 12 tournaments in 2006-07, posting a cumulative stroke average of 73.36. The Muskegon (Mich.) native had two top-10 finishes and four top-20 finishes as a rookie.
Players earning All-Conference honors this past season were Clemson's Ben Martin, Duke's Adam Long, Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro and Cameron Tringale, and Conrad von Borsig from Virginia.
Boston College and ACC co-Champion Georgia Tech were represented by four players each. Duke, North Carolina, Virginia and Co-Champion Virginia Tech claimed two honorees, while Clemson, Florida State, Maryland and Wake Forest landed one player each to round out the 20-member team.
