GREENSBORO, N.C. - Recent Wake Forest graduate Kyle Visser was named to the ACC's All-Academic Men's Basketball Team for the fourth time today. The 10-member team was announced today by league commissioner John Swofford.
Visser is one of just three players to earn a spot on the All-ACC and the ACC All-Academic teams. Visser and Miami's Jack McClinton earned third team All-Conference honors, while NC State's Ben McCauley was an honorable mention selection.
To be eligible for consideration, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Visser is the first Demon Deacon to earn ACC All-Academic honors four times since Broderick Hicks from 1999-2002.
Visser finished his senior season third in field goal percentage (.584), fifth in the ACC in rebounding (7.4), seventh in blocked shots (1.4) and eighth in scoring (17.0). McClinton averaged a team-high 16.7 points per game and led the ACC in free throw percentage (.895) and three-point field goal percentage (.440). McCauley finished second in the ACC in field goal percentage (.584), ninth in rebounding (6.9) and 15th in the ACC in scoring (14.4).
Clemson's Cliff Hammonds averaged 11.6 points and a team-high 4.1 assists and is bidding to become only the sixth player in school history to average in double figures four consecutive years. Miami's Jimmy Graham averaged 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds and shot .538 from the floor despite eight games with a hand injury. Virginia Tech's Coleman Collins averaged 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds as a senior in 2006-07 and finished his career with 1,144 points, 612 rebounds and 106 blocked shots.
Rounding out the league's academic honors team are Clemson's A.J. Tyler and Matt Morris, Duke's Martynas Pocius, and Virginia Tech's Lewis Witcher.
Five players - Collins, Hammonds, Graham, McCauley, and Visser - are repeaters from previous league all-academic teams.
