Winston-Salem, N.C. - Tara Christian earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors for the second consecutive year, becoming one of only 13 ACC women's tennis players to make the list for the 2006-07 academic year.
To become an ITA Scholar Athlete candidates must be enrolled at their current institution for two semesters, be a varsity letter winner and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
Tara, a mathematics major, also earned a spot on the ITA's list in 2006, her first year of eligibility.
Tara made her debut on the ITA rankings at No. 55 in the first poll of the 2007 spring season following a tremendous fall run in 2006. Tara and doubles partner Sasha Kulikova started fall play with a flight sweep at the St. Mary's Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee. At the ITA Southeast Regional Indoor Championships in October, Tara defeated No. 1 seed and 17th-ranked Amanda Fish of Vanderbilt, helping the Deacons earn a 17th overall rank in the ITA Southeast Region at the conclusion of the season.
During spring action, Tara and doubles partner Ana Jerman peaked at No. 49 on the ITA doubles charts.
