GREENVILLE, S.C. - The third-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons are headed to Greenville, S.C. to face Furman in the exhibition opener for both squads, Monday at 6 p.m.
The game marks the Deacs first outing without graduated senior starters Ryan Solle, Wells Thompson and Steve Curfman. The losses will hit the Deacons hardest in the midfield, an area that Head Coach Jay Vidovich said will be evolving throughout the season.
"At this point I really don't have an exact plan for the midfield and offensive positions," Vidovich said. "It's the type of situation where you have to see how the guys work together when it's game time and make revisions from there."
The Deacon senior leadership is anchored in the defense, where Julian Valentin and Pat Phelan complete the solid backline, while Brian Edwards enters his fourth season as goalkeeper.
In regular season play the Deacs are 8-6-4 all-time against the Paladins. The teams last met during a 2007 spring scrimmage, where the Deacs dished out a 1-0 win.
