SAN DIEGO, Calif. - This Labor Day will be a pleasant one for the No. 19 Wake Forest women's soccer team (1-1-0) who recovered from a season-opening loss on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout over Pepperdine (0-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at the San Diego Tournament.
WFU's freshman goalkeeper Amanda Barasha made her career debut in Sunday's contest, playing a full 90 minutes in net. Barasha was backed by the Deac defense, who limited the Waves to just three shots through the entire contest. WFU senior midfielder/defender Kristina Hanely logged 83 minutes in the Deacon shut-out effort.
While the Deac defense held the Waves to three shots through the entire game, the WFU offensive fired 13 shots.
The sophomores helped lead the offensive attack, with class members Caitlin Farrell and Allie Sadow notching the Deacs' goals for the night. Farrell posted the gamewinner off a pass from senior Amanda Lebo in the third minute, while striker Sadow netted her seventh career goal and first of the season in the 76th minute. Samantha Germano recorded her first assist of the season with her pass to Sadow.
The Demon Deacons will continue with west coast competition on Wednesday in Winston-Salem with Long Beach State at 7 p.m. EST.
