WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - All participating members of the Wake Forest women's tennis team advanced in the first round of the Deacon Classic on Friday.
Sophomore Sasha Kulikova was Wake's Flight One representative, advancing with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Georgia State's Martina Nitkova.
After starting the first set 3-0, Nitkova fried back to set the contest at 4-3.
"I lost concentration for a little while," Kulikova said. "I had to come back and play for every point."
One court over, Sierra Poske battled UNC-Charlotte's Yudeshnee Pillay in a series of long games but pulled out a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Senior Jenna Loeb downed Kimber Redfern 6-0, 6-3 in Flight Five, while freshman Katarina Reveche recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win in her first official match at the Deacons' Leighton Stadium.
In doubles, Emilee Malvehy and Christian Tara slammed out an 8-2 win over competitors from UNC-C.
