TALLAHASEE, Fla. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team fell 80-54 to Florida State on Thursday evening in Tallahassee.

The loss set the Demon Deacons to 12-7, 0-5 for the season, while Florida State improved to 12-6, 2-1 with its win.

FSU's Mara Freshour and Shante Williams each posted the game high 18 points, while Christen Brown led the Deacons with 12 points. Brown was 4-4 from beyond the arc in Thursday night's contest.

Wake Forest's Mekia Valetine led both teams on the glass, pulling nine rebounds overall.

Turnovers plagued the Demon Deacons through the first half, and FSU didn't let it slide: the Seminoles scored 17 points off Wake Forest's 16 turnovers. The Deacons only committed four turnovers in the second half.

After Florida State took an early advantage, Wake Forest guard Tiffany Roulhac tied the contest at 8-8 with 3-pointer at the 14:09 mark. The Deacons then controlled the lead several times, but back-to-back 3s from Seminole junior guard Mara Freshour with seven minutes in the half allowed FSU to regain control and hold it until halftime.

The Deacs began to chip away at the 14-point deficit right out of the gates, starting with an uncontested 3-point basket from Christen Brown in the opening seconds.

By the 15 minute mark, the Deacons had cut the Seminole lead to 8 points, thanks to sharp shooting from Brown and Camille Collier who each added 3s. The Deacons also forced three Seminole turnovers in the opening second half minutes and forced nine total in the half, scoring 11 points from Seminole fumbles.

The Seminoles used the remaining ten minutes to charge ahead full speed through the Deacon defense, stretching the lead with 60 percent 3-point shooting in the second half. FSU continued to add to the lead with free throw opportunities, shooting 74 percent during the contest.

Wake Forest will continue ACC action on Sunday, when they take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass at 2 p.m.
