WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Elizabeth "Biffy" Kaufman, a former team captain at Yale, was named the Wake Forest women's tennis assistant coach and will begin work with the Demon Deacons for the 2008 spring season.
"I am very excited that Biffy will be joining the Wake family this upcoming season," WFU Head Coach Chad Skorupka said. "Biffy was an outstanding student-athlete at Yale and she will be a positive influence on our team."
Kaufman was coached by Skorupka during her junior and senior seasons at Yale, where she led the team in No. 1 singles and doubles.
As a Bulldog, Kaufman compiled a 60-16 singles record, including a 16-4 mark at No. 1 during her senior year. She was named to the All-Ivy League singles team her junior and senior season for a combined 10-4 conference record. Kaufman also excelled in doubles, earning all-conference marks every year of her career at Yale.
Kaufman's hard work made an impression her teammates, as they voted her the squad's MVP for three consecutive years. During her senior year she served as the 2003 team captain where she helped guide the team to a 20-3 record.
Following her graduation with a B.A. in American Studies, Kaufman pursued a professional playing career where she took a doubles championship in Japan and was a doubles finalist in Oklahoma and Mexico. Kaufman advanced to the quarterfinals and or semifinals of 10 more tournaments and was a recipient of the USTA Sportsmanship Award at an event in Fort Worth, Texas.
Since May of 2006, Kaufman has been teaching and coaching top-ranked junior players in Southern California at the Galvadon Tennis Academy in Coronado, California.
