Four Wake Forest senior football players are headed to postseason football all-star games in the coming weeks.
Center Steve Justice and defensive end Jeremy Thompson have each been invited to the Senior Bowl. Wide receiver Kenny Moore and long snapper Nick Jarvis have received invites to the Hula Bowl.
The Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will kickoff at 3 p.m. and will be televised live on the NFL Network.
The 62nd annual Hula Bowl will be played on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. EST and the game will be shown on the Versus Network.
Justice earned consensus All-America honors this season, being named to the first team by Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, CBS Sports and ESPN.Com. He was a second team All-America on the Walter Camp and Sports Illustrated teams.
Justice, a 6-4, 284-pound redshirt senior from Port Orange, Fla. (New Smyrna Beach) received the Atlantic Coast Conference's prestigious Jacobs Blocking Trophy awarded annually to the conference's top lineman. Justice is a two-time All-ACC pick at center and was the runner-up for the Rimington Trophy this season.
Thompson, a 6-5, 264-pound redshirt senior from Charlotte, NC (Charlotte Christian) led Wake Forest with 6.5 sacks in 2007. He was an Academic All-District III selection and also a finalist for the National Sportsmanship Award. He finished the season with 45 tackles and 11 tackles for loss.
Moore, a 6-0, 204-pound redshirt senior from Charlotte, NC (Butler), set the ACC record for receptions in a season in 2007. Moore caught 98 passes for 1,011 yards and became just the third Wake player in history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in season receiving yardage. Moore also set a school record and finished second in the ACC with 1,854 all-purpose yards.
Jarvis, a 6-3, 271-pound senior from Lexington, NC (North Davidson) was a four-year starter for Wake Forest at long snapper. He handled the snaps on all punts, field goal attempts and extra point tries since the 2004 season. During his career, Jarvis snapped to All-America punter Ryan Plackemeier and All-America punter and kicker Sam Swank.
Justice and Thompson follow in the footsteps of Josh Gattis who participated in the Senior Bowl in 2007. Moore and Jarvis are the first Deacons to appear in the Hula Bowl since offensive tackle Mark Moroz in 2003.
