WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The third-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team logged its highest margin of victory since 2003 on Wednesday evening, defeating Radford 11-0 at Kentner Stadium. Wake Forest is now 13-2 for the season while the Highlanders are 6-7.
Wake Forest last surpassed the ten goal mark on October 8, 2003, taking down Davidson 12-0 in Davidson, N.C.
Two Deacons scored their first career goals in the contest. Freshman Adelaide Knott added two goals within a five minute span during the second half to make her first marks in this season's goals column. Sophomore Alex Wolfgang-Price slipped in the 10th goal of the game to earn her first collegiate score.
Aileen Davis and Raisa Schiller each scored two goals in the contest. Kim Romansky logged the official game-winner in the 11th minute of play, tapping in Michelle Kasold's shot from the top of the scoring circle.
Kasold put the Deacons up 3-0 with when she sent in a deflected shot with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The senior forward out of Chapel Hill, N.C. also was credited with three assists in the match to set a new single-season assist record with 21 so far in 2008. The previous high mark was 20, set first in 2000 by Jenny Everett and a second time in 2004 by Maeke Boreel.
Faith Adams added the final goal in the 61st minute, putting in a deflected shot from Wolfgang-Price.
Wake's rookie goalkeeper Julia Young defended the Demon Deacon cage in the second half, logging one save. Radford opened with Megan Stucke in goal for the first half and swapped in Jennifer Wisniewski after halftime. The Highlander keepers combined for 11 saves through Wake's 24 shots.
Wake Forest will host its final regular season home match on Sunday, taking on California at 12 p.m. The match will serve as senior day for the Deacons in addition to featuring the Sticks for the Cure promotion.
