Swank Misses Second Straight Game
- Wake Forest P/PK Sam Swank missed his second straight game due to a strained quad muscle in his right leg.
- Redshirt freshman Shane Popham handled both punting and placekicking vs. Maryland.
- Popham missed his only two field goal attempts, from 40 and 47 yards.
- Popham punted nine times for 331 yards, an average of 36.8 yards per punt. He put two punts inside the 20 and narrowly missed another on a touchback.
Skinner Under 50 Percent For First Time Since 2006
- Riley Skinner completed 14 of 30 passes for 127 yards. He completed less than 50 percent of his passes for just the second time in his career. The only other time Skinner was under 50 percent was against Connecticut on Sept. 16, 2006 when he went seven-for-16.
- For just the second time in his career, the Deacons lost when Riley Skinner did not throw an interception.
- The Deacons are now 15-2 in games when Skinner does not throw a pick. The only other loss in a game in which Skinner did not throw an interception was a 27-6 loss to Virginia Tech on Nov. 18, 2006.
Maryland Scores on First Possession
- For just the second time this season, Wake Forest allowed a touchdown on its opponents first drive of the game. Navy was the other opponent that scored on its first possession vs. Wake.
- It was the first time the Deacons allowed a first quarter point on the road this season.
- The nine-yard scoring pass from Da'Rel Scott to Darrius Heyward-Bey was the first passing touchdown allowed by Wake Forest this season.
Wake Can't Covert Two Turnovers Into Points
- Wake Forest forced two turnovers in Maryland territory but could not turn them into any points.
- In the first quarter, Wake took over at the Maryland 25 following a Da'Rel Scott fumble but missed a 40-yard field goal.
- In the second quarter, the Deacs took over at the Terrapin 30 following a fumble but missed a 47 yard field goal.
- Coming into the game, the Deacons had scored 44 of their 112 total points off turnovers.
Wake Gets Shut Out For First Time Since 1998
- Wake Forest was shut out for the first time since suffering a 42-0 defeat at Air Force on Sept. 5, 1998, a span of 123 games.
- Wake Forest had not been shutout by an ACC opponent since suffering a 52-0 loss at Maryland on Oct. 19, 1996, a span of 93 conference games.
With the Wake Forest loss
- Wake Forest falls to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC.
- The Deacons are tied for first in the ACC Atlantic Division at 2-1 with Maryland and FSU (Boston College also if it wins Saturday night vs. Virginia Tech)
- Wake Forest's two-game winning streak over Maryland was halted.
- Maryland has defeated the last five ranked teams that it has faced including three this season.
- Wake Forest's three-game road winning streak comes to an end.

- Maryland QB Chris Turner completed 28 passes, the most allowed by Wake Forest's defense this season and the most since Boston College's Matt Ryan completed 40 vs. the Deacons on Nov. 4, 2006. Turner's 28 completions were the second-highest ever by an opponent in the Jim Grobe Era.
- Wake Forest had allowed just two field goals on the season entering the game.
- Maryland's four field goals are the most kicked by an opponent vs. Wake Forest since Virginia had four in 2004.
