The Running Game

  • Wake Forest went with a new-look offense against Miami, lining-up almost exclusively in the Power I formation.
  • Wake Forest, which entered the game 11th in the ACC in rushing at 94.7 yards per game, finished with a season-best 195 rushing yards. The previous season-high was 156 yards vs. both Baylor and Clemson.
  • The Deacons rushed the ball 52 times, surpassing the previous season-high of 46 vs. Clemson.
  • Josh Adams finished with 111 rushing yards. It was the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and his first this season. Adams' last 100-yard rushing effort came against Vanderbilt on November 24, 2007 when he rushed for 111 yards.
  • Fullback Mike Rinfrette finished with a career-high 30 yards on a career-best nine carries. Rinfrette gave Wake Forest an early lead with a 1-yard touchdown run, his second rushing touchdown of his career.

Red Zone

  • Wake Forest entered the game last in the ACC in red zone offense, scoring points on 16 of 23 trips inside the 20.
  • Against Miami, Wake scored on two of its first three trips inside the Miami 20-yard line as Mike Rinfrette rushed for a 1-yard score and Shane Popham connected on a 24-yard field goal.

Injury Update:

  • Wake Forest P/PK Sam Swank missed his third consecutive game due to a strained quadriceps muscle.
  • TE Ben Wooster did not play due to a hamstring injury.
  • CB Brandon Ghee, a starter in the first six games, did not play due to a foot injury.

Skinner

  • Riley Skinner did not throw a pass in the first quarter of a game for only the second time in his career. Skinner did not attempt a first quarter pass against Ole Miss on Sept. 23, 2006.
  • Skinner finished the game 3-of-8 with 57 yards passing an no interceptions.
  • Wake Forest is now 15-3 in games where Skinner does not throw an interception.

Deacons Bounce Back Following Shutout

  • The last time Wake Forest was shutout, the Deacons suffered a 42-0 setback at Air Force on Sept. 5, 1998.
  • The game following that shutout, Wake bounced back and defeated Navy 26-14.
  • Today, Wake Forest scored 10 first half points, but were held scoreless in the second half.

Frosh Starters

  • For the first time in the Jim Grobe Era, Wake Forest started a pair of true freshmen. Joe Looney started at left guard and Andrew Parker at tight end.
  • Looney started in place of Russell Nenon who moved to center after starter Trey Bailey suffered a broken ankle against Maryland last week.
  • Parker earned his first college start in place of Ben Wooster who strained a hamstring against Maryland and did not make the trip.
  • This was the first time since 2000 that Wake Forest started two true freshmen. Against Virginia on Sept. 27, 2000, the Deacons started Quinton Williams at corner and Tyson Clabo at right guard.

First Action

  • Tight end Cameron Ford suffered a high ankle sprain during camp and made it into his first college game today.

Opponent's Field Goals

  • Wake Forest's opponents have made nine straight field goals vs. the Deacons.
  • Baylor made its last attempt after missing its first try of the season opener.
  • Navy made its only attempt vs. Wake Forest.
  • Maryland was four-for-four last week.
