Behind the scenes with the CHAMPS!! 5:45pm.
Final round! At 7:00am, we checked out and dragged all our luggage and golf bags into the team van. At 7:30am after a quick breakfast, we headed to the golf course to get stretched out, warm up, and be ready to take the trophy home. There was a feeling of excitement in the air and we knew it was going to be a good day for us. When we got to the golf course, we played some pre-game songs through the van speakers to get each of us pumped.
By 9:00 am, everyone seemed to be hitting it good and ready to go. The final round was a shotgun at 9:15am so that some teams could catch their flights home. Our group of supporters for this weekend showed up just before the horn blasted to start the round, including another Wake Forest Graduate, an old teammate, Maggie Simons.
During the round, none of us knew how each of us were doing or how the team was doing, except for the coaches with "Blackberrys." Personally, at the holes when I saw coach, she didn't seem like she was stressed or panicking, so I figured we were still doing good. I birdied my last hole which was number one since my group started on hole two to finish two under thinking I played a decent round. As we headed back to the 18th green, Coach Dailey was waving frantically which assured me that we had the team title. When I got close enough, Nannette broke the news to me that I have tied for the individual title.
It was a great weekend for all of us. Coach was overjoyed. We have three players in top 5 with two players tied for the individual title and not to forget the team trophy. We played well as a team and everyone contributed to the team score. Everyone is playing well and we are excited to defend our title in our next tournament at Wilmington in three weeks. That will be our last tournament for our fall season. Before we got on the highway to head home, we stopped at an Italian restaurant called "pap's ristorente." While watching Titanic that was playing on the TV there, each of us ordered something light, enough to hold us until dinner when we get home.
We're currently in the van about 45 minutes from school. The weekend has been good but now we're heading back to reality. Everyone is worn out and making sure we're squared away with all our homework, papers and exams. Great tournament! Go Deacs!

Stretching the lead to 11 shots! 9:00pm.
Another solid round by the Wake Forest Women Golfers! With three of our players in the top 10 and Natalie at the top of the leaderboard, we are definitely excited for our final round tomorrow. Our hard work is starting to pay off and this is where we want to be going into the final round of the tournament. However, we do need to stay focused, calm and not get ahead of ourselves. We do not need to be thinking about scores on the course tomorrow. We just have to keep doing what we are doing and we will be in great shape.
A couple of unexpected supporters showed up to cheer on us including our golf team grad, Laura Crawford and her parents. Most of us had a rough start but we pulled it together and manage to turn in good scores. As I walked up to the 18th green, I caught sight of a lot of smiling faces from the Wake Forest crowd and I knew all of us were doing something right.
When our last player finally finished her round, we were ahead of Virginia and UNC by 11 shots going into the final round tomorrow. After a quick practice, we headed to "Four Eleven," an Italian restaurant, for dinner.
We had our usual team meeting at about 8:15 pm and headed back to our rooms. The team will be up bright and early tomorrow at 6:30am to finish this tournament. Stay focus and finish strong!! Go wake!!

At the top after round 1 in Chapel Hill, NC!
At 8:30 a.m. this morning everyone met downstairs for breakfast. We all looked rested and ready to go. We were excited to see some Wake Forest supporters out on the course today, including a couple of faculty members from our athletics department. We always appreciate our fans that come out and cheer us on, especially when the game takes up almost the entire day.
It turned out to be a great day for us. The weather was perfect and the golf course was in a really good condition. All of us did an excellent job in staying patient and hanging in there. We are really excited for tomorrow, because we played well today but we know we can do a lot better tomorrow. Most of us had problems at least in one area of our game but worked it out today after the round.
Coach decided to have a parent's night tonight since coach was invited to a coach's dinner. Natalie and Nannette's parents were in town, so Dolores, Cheyenne, Coach Robin and I went to cheesecake factory and had the most amazing dinner. To top that off, we each ordered a huge slice of cheesecake of our choice. We had our usual team meeting when we got back to the hotel and we are ready to pull away from the field. We just have to stay patient, play our games and most important, have fun and enjoy ourselves tomorrow.
Same tee times tomorrow, so those of you, who have some free time, come check us out at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, NC! We'll be here grinding it out till about 4:30 p.m. If you can't make it, you can watch live scoring on <>!

Back on the road with Wake Forest Women's Golf. 9:15 pm.
We returned to campus last Sunday at about 10:30 p.m. and today at 11:00 a.m., we were off again to Chapel Hill, NC. Coach decided to get a later tee time for our practice round and allow us to attend our 9:30 a.m. classes. We hit a little traffic on the highway but we got there just in time for our 1:00 p.m. tee time.
The practice round went well and everyone got a chance to get adapted to the greens. The greens this week are going to be very different from the ones we played in Nashville, Tenn. They are holding and spinning our balls a lot more and rolls a little slower compared to last weekend. By the time we were walking up the 18th fairway, the sun was almost down and the time showed a couple of minutes pass seven. While we were loading our golf clubs into the van, I noticed that we were the last ones on the golf course.
We headed back to the hotel where dinner was provided for us. According to Nannette, what we had was an Italian cuisine called, "manicott." Did not make a big difference to me, it was good and I ate a ton of it. After everyone had stuffed themselves, we checked into our rooms, showered and changed into comfy clothes. Then we all piled into Natalie and Nannette's room and decided to use our itunes card, we received last week as the tournament gift. When coach returned from her coach's dinner, we had our usual team meeting to go over tournament rules, and our strategy of play for tomorrow.
Since the greens are holding so well, and it looked like all of us were hitting it pretty good today, we decided to be a little aggressive and attack the pins tomorrow but still playing smart and respecting the ones that are tucked tight. We're looking forward to a bunch of birdies and less mistakes. Simple key to go low on a golf course is more birdies, less bogeys. Our first tee time tomorrow is not till 10:30 a.m. At least we will be able to sleep in till about 8:00 a.m. Keep track of our scores LIVE on Golfstat!
