Deacons Become Bowl Eligible
- Wake posted its sixth win of the season to become bowl eligible for the third straight year.
- It is the first time since 1946-48 that Wake has had at least six wins in three straight seasons.
Pendergrass Scores TD, Breaks Century Mark
- RB Brandon Pendergrass rushed for a career-high 110 yards on a career-high 27 carries. The redshirt freshman scored his fourth touchdown of the season on a one-yard TD run in the second quarter.
- It was Pendergrass' first 100-yard rushing game of his career and the second by a Deacon this season.
- On the drive that produced his TD, Pendergrass had 59 yards rushing, including a 19-yard gain to the Virginia nine-yard line.
Patterson Gives Deacons First Defensive TD of Season
- CB Kevin Patterson's 53-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:16 to play in the first half was Wake Forest's first defensive touchdown of the season.
- The interception was Patterson's fourth pick of the year, the seventh of his career and his second career interception return for a touchdown.
- Patterson has 174 interception return yards in his career, which ranks fifth all-time in school history.
- In 2007, Wake Forest led the nation with eight defensive touchdowns including six interception returns for touchdowns.
Skinner Throws Two TD Passes
- QB Riley Skinner completed 14 of 20 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
- Skinner's two TD passes gives him 31 for his career, which is fifth all-time at Wake Forest.
- Skinner has not thrown an INT in his last 130 pass attempts, one shy of his career high.
- Wake Forest is now 17-3 in games when Skinner does not throw an interception. He has thrown an INT in just one game this season (vs. Navy).
Wake Forest Scores 28 Points in First Half
- Wake Forest scored more points (28) in the first half of the game than they did in the entire month of October (22).
- Wake's 28-3 halftime lead was its largest since leading North Carolina A&T 35-0 on Sept. 18, 2004.
- The 11-point victory is Wake Forest's second-largest margin of victory behind a 28-point season-opening win at Baylor (41-13).
Brown Scores First Career Touchdown
- WR Devon Brown scored his first career touchdown on a 58-yard pass from Riley Skinner in the first quarter.
- The TD pass, which came on a third-and-15, was the longest play from the scrimmage for the Deacons this season.
Wake Forest Defense Forces Four Turnovers
- The Deacons forced four turnovers, including three interceptions and a fumble recovery.
- LB Aaron Curry forced and recovered a fumble on Virginia's second possession of the game.
- NG Boo Robinson recorded his second career INT on Virginia's third possession of the game.
- CB Kevin Patterson intercepted a pass in the second quarter and returned it 53 yards for a TD.
- LB Stanley Arnoux intercepted a pass on Virginia's final possession of the game.
- The Deacs scored 14 points off the turnovers. Wake has scored 70 of its 183 points this season off turnovers.
Injury Update
- Wake Forest P/PK Sam Swank missed his fifth consecutive game due to a strained quadriceps muscle.
- TE Ben Wooster returned to action after missing two games due to a hamstring injury. Wooster caught his first touchdown pass since the season opener.
- CB Brandon Ghee, a starter in the first six games, returned to action after missing two games with a foot injury.
- RB Josh Adams was available but less than 100 percent. Adams did not see action in the game. Adams practiced all week after suffering a sprained left ankle against Miami last week.
Today's Attendance
- Wake Forest drew 34,014 fans to today's Homecoming game.
- It marked a season-high in attendance for this season, and it is the 11th-highest attendance figure for a Wake Forest game at BB&T Field.
- It marks Wake Forest's 14th consecutive home game with an attendance above stadium capacity (31,500).
Miscellaneous Notes
- Wake Forest's game captains were WR D.J. Boldin and LB Aaron Curry.
- Wake Forest won the toss and elected to defer; Virginia chose to receive and defend the South goal. It was the third time in nine games this season that the Deacons won the coin toss.
- The Deacons moved to 34-40-2 all-time in Homecoming games since 1930. Wake Forest has won three straight Homecoming dates since 2006.
- Wake Forest wore gold jerseys for the first time in at least 52 years. The last time the Deacons wore gold jerseys, the campus was located in Wake Forest, NC. The college moved to Winston-Salem in 1956 and gold jerseys had not been worn since the campus moved.
- Wake Forest's scoring drive of 8:49 that resulted in a 1-yard Brandon Pendergrass touchdown run, was Wake Forest's most time-consuming drive since a drive of10:08 against Vanderbilt on Oct. 7, 2000.
With the Wake Forest Win
- The Deacons improve to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the ACC.
- Wake Forest will maintain at least a share of first place in the ACC's Atlantic Division.
- Wake Forest becomes bowl eligible for the third straight year.
- Wake Forest has won six or more games in three consecutive years for the first time since 1946-48.
- The Deacons have won four or more ACC games in three consecutive years for the first time in school history.
- Wake Forest improves to 33-40-2 all-time in Homecoming games and 4-4 under Jim Grobe.
