Wake Forest Head Coach Jim GrobeOn the final drive...
"I am disappointed we couldn't have gotten a first down there. That was tough. You feel like if you can get around the 30-yard line you can kick a field goal. We were just too far out; we needed to get the first down, but we just couldn't do it. Anytime Riley (Skinner) is in there you feel pretty good about your chances, but we just couldn't make it happen."
On attempting the field goal midway through the fourth quarter...
"The only thing we thought about was to go for it. We felt like if we could get to three the points, we go up by eight and that's pretty comfortable. If we punt the thing, I was afraid about punting it into the end zone. Mitch felt like we could make it. When we went out today, Mitch's feeling was that if we had a longer field goal we would go with Shane (Popham), but (Sam) Swank was kicking them pretty good. He hit it great; it had plenty of distance."
On the Boston College defensive pressure...
"They put a lot of pressures on us, there's no question. They made us have shorter drives and shorter routes. One thing that helped us later game was we were able to run it better. At times we were not allowed to complete passes."
On the struggles of the offensive line...
"Not having Trey Bailey with a broken ankle and having several people out has been tough. We don't have anyone on the OL right now that's not beat up. We aren't a very healthy group, and we haven't had a lot of continuity throughout the year. We've been moving people around a lot. We are kind of taped together right now."
On what was talked about at halftime...
"We talked to our offensive a lot at halftime about blocking. You can't do anything without blocking. We had some plays that could have been good to us but we didn't block very well. We did better in the second half, but that's where everything starts."
Wake Forest Players
Senior Fullback Rich Belton
On what BC was doing to stop the WFU offense...
"Honestly, they weren't doing too much. It was just us. We were beating ourselves. Personally, I feel like I kind of stalled out a drive (with the chop block). Offensively, we weren't making enough plays. That's what it comes down to."
On offense...
"Like I said, it's just us not making enough plays. Coach Lobo kept telling us we're in the right place and we're blocking the right guys, we're just aren't finishing. We aren't making the plays we need to make. That's just something we have to fix offensively. It's no one's fault but ours."
Senior Safety Kevin Patterson
On the Demon Deacon defense...
"After the first quarter, things started going our way. The second half we pretty much handled them like we wanted to. We were always looking for that next play, but unfortunately, it didn't turn out how we wanted it."
On the team's mentality after the loss...
"We're pretty down right now. We expected to get off the field and give our offense a stop. We just have to keep our head up and get ready for Vanderbilt."
Junior Quarterback Riley Skinner
On what BC was doing to keep the offense from moving the ball...
"They were doing a lot. They were probably the best defense we've played all year. They brought a lot of heat and schemed us up pretty well. They had a couple of tips on a couple of our routes. They are just a physical defense and probably the biggest defense we play."
On whose actions contributed to the final outcome...
"It was a little bit of both teams. I think what they did is have a really good scheme against us. Then I gave up seven points on a play. So, it was a little bit of what they did and a little bit of what we did."
Senior Placekicker Sam Swank
On how you feel about the game...
"It was a great game. Hats off to BC and hats off to us. I think when we look at the film we are going to have a lot of things that we wish we would have done and the same goes for BC."
On when you knew you were ready to get back in the game...
"I pretty much knew from Monday when I made a transition from kicking nerf balls to footballs that I was ready. Day by day I was progressing. I felt good coming into it and I loosened up real well. It felt real good. I'll be kicking field goals for sure next week."
Boston College Head Coach Jeff Jagodzinski
On how the team won...
"We called 'take off' at the end and made that really good play on third down. The conversion was huge. Then we went 'take off' two times in a row and then we made a play at the end. It's just finding a way to win. We talked to our kids last night about that. That's why BC is the way it is, we find a way to win."
On how it was towards the end...
"You are only in deep trouble if you don't play the full sixty minutes. That's what you have to do. You have to keep slugging even if it doesn't look good. You can't look at your circumstances. At halftime I said we needed to continue playing good defense which we were. I thought that our defense controlled the game."
