Wake Forest Battles BC in ACC Tourney Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team will begin play at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday, November 6 against Boston College at 4 p.m. Duke University will host the three-day event in Durham, N.C.

The third-seeded Demon Deacons finished the regular season with a 17-2 overall record and 3-2 mark in the conference. BC earned the six-seed with a 12-6, 1-4 finish. The teams faced each other on November 1, where Wake Forest posted a 4-1 victory in Chestnut Hill.

The winner of the Thursday's match will face two-seed North Carolina at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 7.

Maryland earned the tournament's top-seed, while host school Duke was seeded fourth and Virginia was seeded fifth.

Single session tickets will be available for $5 and all-tournament passes will be sold for $10. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Duke Box Office at 1-877-375-DUKE or visiting the ticketing website. In addition, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast over the internet at ACCSelect.com. The championship will be broadcast on Regional Networks on a tape-delayed basis.

Duke last hosted the conference championship in 2002 where Wake Forest posted its first of three ACC Tournament titles with a 4-0 victory over Maryland. The Demon Deacons also took the title in 2003 and 2006.

2007 marked the first year Wake Forest did not earn a bye in the first round of the tournament. The third-seeded Deacons advanced to the final match but fell in 4-3 heartbreaker to eventual National Champion North Carolina.
