Former Deacon Parkhurst Wins MLS Fair Play Award

NEW YORK - Former Wake Forest men's soccer player and current member of the New England Revolution Michael Parkhurst won the MLS Fair Play Award, as announced by the Major League Soccer office. The Revolution also earned the MLS Team Fair Play Award.
A defender for the New England Revolution, Parkhurst claimed the MLS Fair Play Award for the second straight year. Parkhurst started in 28 games and played 2,520 minutes, while committing only nine fouls on the season. The Cranston, R.I., native did not receive a caution or red card for the second straight season. The 2007 Visa MLS Defense of the Year, Parkhurst was a member of the 2007 MLS Best XI and is a three-time MLS All-Star.
The Revolution, which features three former Wake Forest players in Parkhurst, Wells Thompson and Pat Phelan, earned the Team Fair Play award for accumulating the fewest disciplinary points (300) of any team during the 2008 regular season. A team receivers four disciplinary points for each caution received, 10 points for each red card, 0.50 points for each foul committed and a reduction of 15 points for each game that a team competes without receiving any red cards or action from the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
