WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest graduate student Natalie Mullikin was named to the America Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region team on Wednesday afternoon. Voting was conducted by member head coaches from the East region.
This is the first time Mullikin has earned AVCA All-Region honors and she becomes just the third Demon Deacon to earn the distinction, joining Valerie Rydberg and Christy Williams, who both earned the award in 2003.
Mullikin had a stellar 2008 campaign and will go down as one of the best to wear the black and gold. She earned first team All-ACC honors for the second straight season after earning second team accolades as a sophomore in 2006. She is also just the second player in Wake Forest history to earn first team All-ACC honors twice.
This season, Mullikin topped the squad with 395 kills for an average of 3.41 per set and had a solid .316 hitting percentage. She also led the team with 123 total blocks including 25 block solos and 98 block assists.
The Lebanon, Ind., native finishes her career as the school's all-time leading blocker, holding the school record for career block solos (124), career block assists (397) career total blocks (521) and career blocks per set (1.17). She also finished third all-time for career kills with 1,423.
Mullikin led the team in kills 19 times this season and recorded double-digit kills in all but six matches.
Her accolades also extend to the classroom as well as she was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second straight season and has also been an Academic All-ACC selection each of her first three seasons.
The Demon Deacons finished the 2008 campaign with a 19-13 overall record including a 14-3 mark at home, which is the most wins at home in school history.
