
Wake Forest Falls to Davidson, 9-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson's Matt Webb went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs to lead the Wildcats to a 9-3 victory over Wake Forest Tuesday night at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
Mike Murray homered to right-center field in the top of the fifth inning. The sophomore catcher now has four homeruns on the year.
The Deacs jumped out to an early lead when first baseman Allan Dykstra doubled down the first baseline to score centerfielder Ben Terry, who led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. Wake led 1-0 after Dykstra's 21st RBI of the season.
Wake held the one-run advantage until the bottom of the third when Webb's solo homerun off Deacon starter Mark Adzick knotted the score at one.
Webb gave the Wildcats a 4-1 lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Following walks to Matt Ray and Brett Shore and Zach Kayne was hit by a pitch, Webb doubled down the right field line, clearing the bases.
Murray's homerun off Davidson reliever Andy Bass in the top of the fifth cut the Wildcat lead to 4-2.
Davidson got the run back in the next half inning on a solo homerun from rightfielder Chase Fitzpatrick.
The Wildcats led 5-2 until the bottom of the sixth when Webb found himself in another RBI situation and delivered. With the bases loaded the designated hitter scored his second two-out RBI when his bloop single fell down the right field line to score Shore and give the Wildcats a 6-2 edge.
The Deacs added their third run in the top of the ninth when Murray singled up the middle to score Steven Brooks, who pinch ran for Weldon Woodall after he led-off the inning with a single.
Murray was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, one run scored and a homerun for the game. Murray has 17 RBIs on the season.
Tyler Smith went 2 for 4 and Dykstra was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Deacs fall to 13-22 with the loss and will meet Davidson in Winston-Salem for the second game of a two-game series on April 30.
Wake will return to Winston-Salem Wednesday to face Winthrop at 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
