WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest seniors Ben Hunter and Andy Goff have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Hunter, a righthanded pitcher and biology major from Cincinnati, was named to the second team. Goff, an infielder and communication major from Pittsburgh, was named to the third team. Both student-athletes are first-time members of the Academic All-District squads.

An All-American closer in 2006, Hunter is now a weekend starter for the Demon Deacons. He has compiled a record of 2-5 with a 5.45 ERA this season. A member of the 2008 Roger Clemens Award watch list, he currently leads the staff with 61 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched.

Hunter was named first team All-ACC as a closer in 2006. He was also selected as a second team All-American by Rivals.com and a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball that season. Hunter was a semifinalist for the 2006 Dick Howser Trophy, as well as the 2006 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award.

Despite being in the starting rotation each of the past two seasons, Hunter still ranks third on Wake Forest's career saves list. He is also tied for ninth in career appearances at Wake Forest.

Off the field, Hunter is a two-time ACC Honor Roll selection and was named to the 2007 ACC All-Academic Team. He is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society, the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. Hunter plans to attend medical school after graduation this month.

Goff is a four-year starter and two-year captain for Wake Forest. This season, he has hit .251 with 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The shortstop leads all Deacon regulars with a .976 fielding percentage.

Entering this weekend's series, Goff has played in 204 career games with 202 starts. He ranks in the top five on the school's career HBP and sacrifice hits lists and is just outside the top 10 on the school's career at-bats rankings.

Off the field, Goff was named to the ACC All-Academic Team in 2006 and 2007. He is a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection and has volunteered with projects such as Hurricane Katrina Relief, Operation Wounded Solider, Santa's Helpers and Project Pumpkin.

Of the 33 players on the Academic All-District III teams, 12 were from the ACC. District III includes institutions from the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

To be nominated for the Academic All-District ballot, a student-athlete must have achieved sophomore status and be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career. A student-athlete is nominated by his sports information director, and the ballots are then voted upon by members of CoSIDA. Student-athletes named first team All-District advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
