PHOENIX - Former Wake Forest baseball player Jamie D'Antona made his major league debut on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs. D'Antona made an impact in his first game as he had a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning in his first at-bat in the majors.
D'Antona found out he had been called up to the Diamondbacks earlier in the day on Tuesday. The team wasted little time getting him off the bench as he made his first appearance in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's game.
A second round draft pick of the Diamondbacks in 2003, D'Antona was enjoying a breakout year at Triple-A Tucson. Before being called up, he was hitting .367 with 31 doubles, 17 home runs and 67 RBIs. D'Antona recently got the opportunity to represent the United States in the XM All-Star Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.
After playing in the Futures Game, the former Wake Forest star then went on to win the Triple-A Home Run Derby, hitting eight long balls. D'Antona also participated in the Triple-A All-Star Game as a member of the winning Pacific Coast League team.
D'Antona joins Dave Bush of the Milwaukee Brewers as former Deacons who are on the active roster of a Major League team.
