WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest grabbed the momentum early and never let it go as the Demon Deacons cruised to a sweep of East Carolina in the second match of the Black & Gold Challenge.
The win was the second straight for the Deacs as they improve to 5-3 on the season. East Carolina falls to 8-3 with the loss.

With ten digs in the match, sophomore libero Megan Thornberry has now recorded double-digit digs in seven of the eight matches this season.
ECU took an early lead in the first set at 10-7 but a kill and a service ace on back-to-back points from McIntyre sparked a 4-1 run to tie the score at 11-11.
The Deacons then seized control as two kills from McIntyre and Fornah gave Wake an 18-15 lead. Then three kills by White and a Cambrey Oehler service ace paced a 7-0 Deacon run to end the first set 25-15. McIntyre and White each had five kills in the set.
The second set was all Wake Forest as the Deacons steam rolled their way to a 20-11 victory. Fornah added four more kills in the set while Wake posted five total blocks led by three block assists from Natalie Mullikin. Mullikin ended the match with a total of six block assists and is now just 42 blocks away from setting the school record for career blocks.
In the third set, ECU started strong taking a 7-5 lead but Wake then went on a 12-5 run keyed by a pair of kills from both McIntyre and Vain to give the Deacs a 17-12 advantage. After a kill from ECU's Stephanie Turner, the Pirates recorded three straight errors and the Deacons would eventually put the finishing touches on a 25-15 victory.
Wake finished with 11 total blocks for the match compared to just two for the Pirates. The Deacons also held the advantage in total digs 30-24.
