- Five of the seven turnovers were interceptions. Kevin Patterson had two, and Aaron Curry, Alphonso Smith and Chip Vaughn had one apiece.
- The Deacons fell short of the school record for turnovers forced and interceptions. The record for turnovers forced is nine, set on Nov. 17, 1956, vs. Duke. The record for interceptions is seven, set Nov. 21, 1987, at Georgia Tech.
Deacons Win With 12 Points on 4 Field Goals
- Wake Forest won despite scoring just 12 points on four field goals. The Deacons are now 9-26 in games they have scored less than 24 points during the Jim Grobe era.
Alphonso Smith Gets 16th Career Interception
- Alphonso Smith intercepted his second pass of the season and the 16th of his career.
- The interception marked the third time in the last 16 games that Smith has intercepted the opponent on their first offensive play of the game (Boston College and Vanderbilt in 2007).
- The interception left Smith one shy of the school career record of 17, which is shared by Ronnie Burgess (1981-84) and A.J. Greene (1985-88).
- Smith also moved into a tie for eighth in ACC history in career interceptions.
Sam Swank Makes 4 of 7 Field Goals
- Sam Swank made four of seven field goals on the night.
- His four field goals gave Swank 69 for his career, putting him in sole possession of third place on the ACC career list. He passed FSU's Xavier Beitia (2001-04).
- Swank has made 69 field goals in 88 career attempts.
- Swank is now ranked 27th in NCAA history for career field goals made.
- Swank's missed 27-yard field goal in the first quarter ended a streak of 10 consecutive made field goals.
- The missed 27-yarder was the shortest miss of Swank's career. He had missed a 28-yarder against Florida State in 2005.
- Swank attempted a career high seven field goals, which set a school record that had stood since 1991.
- Marshall Williams' first quarter 52-yard reception was the longest of his career.
- It also marked the longest completion of the season by the Deacons and the longest since Jordan Williams hauled in a 65-yard pass against NC State on Nov. 17, 2007.
- Kevin Patterson intercepted a Christian Ponder pass late in the second quarter and a D'Vontrey Richardson pass in the fourth quarter. Patterson now has six career interceptions, including three against Florida State.
- Patterson also forced a fumble in the second half, giving him three turnovers forced for the game.
Deacons Go Scoreless in Second Quarter
- When the Deacons did not score in the second quarter, it marked the first time this year the Deacs were shut out in a quarter.
- Wake Forest had scored in 11 consecutive quarters dating back to last season.
- The 3-0 halftime lead marked the fewest points in a half by Wake Forest since trailing UConn 10-0 at halftime of the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2007.
