The teams traded points for the first half of the second set as there were six ties and neither led by more than one point. The third set was much like the second as the teams found themselves tied at 15-15 after trading points early on. Valparaiso then closed the set on a 10-5 run to take a two set to one advantage with a 25-20 victory.
The Crusaders carried the momentum into the fourth set as they raced out to an early 10-3 lead. Despite two kills apiece from Fornah, Mullikin, White and McIntyre, the Deacs could not stop the Crusaders momentum, ultimately dropping the set 25-20.

Wake will return home to host the Black & Gold Invitational next weekend, Sept. 12-13. The Deacs will open play against Western Michigan at 7 p.m. on Friday night. They will then take on East Carolina at 12:30 p.m. and Delaware at 7 p.m. on Saturday
