Team Records and Series Notes
  • Wake Forest improves to 14-0 overall and 1-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while North Carolina drops to 14-2 and 0-2 in league play.
  • The 14-0 record equals the second-best record to start a season in school history, tying the 14-0 start to the 1980-81 season. The best record to open the season is 15-0 set in the 1926-27 season.
  • North Carolina still leads the overall series 151-64, but Wake Forest has won seven of the past 12 meetings between the two squads.
  • Wake Forest has now won nine straight games against teams from the state of North Carolina. Wake's last loss against an in-state foe came on January 24, 2007, against UNC.

  • Key Run: Leading 63-61 with 11:36 remaining in the second half, Wake Forest went on a 7-2 run to take a 70-63 lead. Wake Forest held the lead for the remainder of the game as UNC could get no closer than three points for the rest of the game.
  • Key Stat: The Demon Deacons were clutch at the free-throw line down the stretch, hitting 9-of-12 shots in the final three minutes of the game. For the game, Wake Forest was 28-of-39 (71.8 percent) from the free-throw line, while North Carolina was 31-of-38 (81.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
  • The Wake Forest defense held North Carolina to 26-of-74 (35.1 percent) shooting from the field, while the Demon Deacons shot 29-of-61 (47.5 percent) from the field.

Wake Forest Individual Notes

  • Sophomore guard Jeff Teague scored a career-high 34 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. Teague was nearly automatic at the free-throw line, knocking down 13-of-15 shots. The game was Teague's third 30-point performance of the season. He is the only player in the ACC to record multiple 30-point games.
  • Teague also tied for the team lead in assists with four and brought down six rebounds.
  • Junior center Chas McFarland scored a season-high tying 20 points. McFarland also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, and also added two blocks and two steals.
  • Freshman forward Al-Farouq Aminu scored nine points and tied for the team high with four assists. Aminu also added three blocked shots.
  • Freshman center Tony Woods came off the bench to play 10 solid minutes. Woods scored six points and brought down three rebounds.
