WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team is gearing up for two matches this weekend, including the kickoff to Wake Forest's 2009 Homecoming during the Appalachian State match on Sunday, October 4.

On Saturday, October 3, Wake Forest will host a key conference matchup against the second-ranked UNC Tar Heels. North Carolina is 10-0 and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest is 7-2 and 1-1 in league play. With just three conference games remaining in the conference slate the every match will count in determining the ACC Tournament seeding. Saturday's match begins at 1 p.m.

On Sunday, October 4, Wake Forest welcomes Appalachian State for the 2009 Homecoming Kickoff. In addition to t-shirt tosses and fan contests, the match will feature a hamster ball race during halftime to begin the week-long festivities for Wake Forest's Homecoming. Match time is set for 1 p.m.

Admission is free to both matches. Next week the Demon Deacon will begin a three-match road swing that includes visits to Virginia, as well as Louisville to play two matches at the University of Louisville.
