Wake Forest Hosts ITA Carolina Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - For the second consecutive season Wake Forest University will be hosting the women's ITA Carolina Regionals at the Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem. Play will begin with the qualifying draw of 32 on Thursday, October 22, and conclude with the main draw singles and doubles championships on Monday, October 26.
The overall winners in singles and doubles will advance to the ITA Nationals, held this year at Yale University, November 5-8.
"We feel very fortunate to be hosting this event for the second year in a row. We are looking forward to a really good competitive tournament with a lot of top teams participating," Wake Forest head coach Chad Skorupka said.
"For our team this is a great opportunity for players to face some of best athletes in the area without leaving Winston-Salem. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to send some of our players to Yale for the national tournament."
Some of the participating 21 teams include defending NCAA national champion Duke, as well as North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson and host school Wake Forest. Six athletes from the opening qualifying draw of 32 will receive a spot in the main singles draw of 64.
Draws and the schedule of play for each day will be posted on the tournament's website.
Wake Forest is a frequent host site for the ITA regionals and other large tournaments because it is the only university facility in the region with eight indoor courts. Additionally, the Indoor Tennis Center was recently renovated with state-of-the-art lighting in addition to re-surfacing to make it one of the elite facilities in the South.
