WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The sixth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team downed No. 9 Boston College 5-2 on Saturday, October 31, in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest is now 11-5 and 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and clinched the four-seed for the upcoming ACC Tournament. The Deacons will face Boston College (13-5, 1-4) in the opening round of the tourney on Thursday, November 5, in Charlottesville, Va.

Appropriately, following the 2009 Senior Day ceremony, the Wake Forest senior class scored four of the team's five goals. Raisa Schiller teamed up with sophomore Kaitlin Piosa on a breakaway run. Piosa out-ran the BC defenders and found herself wide open and slipped the ball to Schiller who tapped it in just over two minutes into regulation.

In the 15th minute senior Kim Romansky tapped in a shot from Liza Casella on a penalty corner attempt to put Wake Forest up 2-0 over the Eagles. Senior Hilary Moore added the final goal of the half when she seized an opportunity during a frenzy in front of the BC cage, slipping a shot through several defenders in the 30th minute.

Boston College's Chelsey Feole scored her 24th goal of the season to open scoring in the second half. Feole took a cross from Emily Kozniuk during a penalty corner to cut the Wake Forest lead to 3-1.

Piosa, who has become the team's reliable penalty stroke striker, put Wake Forest up 4-1 when she slipped one past BC goalkeeper Kristein Stigas during a penalty stroke in the 54th minute. Raisa Schiller added the final Wake Forest goal when she broke through the BC defense to fire an unassisted rocked into the Eagle goal with a little over ten minutes in regulation.

BC's Kate Gillis added the final goal of the game when she beat Wake Forest keeper Kaitlin Ruhf in a one-on-one situation.
