Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - It was a frustrating end to the 2009 season as the Wake Forest field hockey team out-shot and had more penalty corner opportunities than North Carolina, but still fell 4-1 in the NCAA quarterfinals at Kentner Stadium.

The seventh-ranked Demon Deacons end the season with a 13-7 record while the third-ranked Tar Heels improve to 18-2 and move on to face Virginia in the NCAA semifinals, held at Wake Forest on November 20.

Tar Heel goalkeeper Jackie Kintzer had a huge game, coming up with six saves to help keep UNC in front of the Deacons.

Wake Forest's Aileen Davis scored the team's only goal during a penalty corner with no time on the clock in the first half. The goal set the halftime score at 2-1, but the Deacons were unable to carry the momentum into the second half.

The Demon Deacons had five penalty corners in the second half, including three consecutive corners with 20 minutes left in regulation, but couldn't convert.

Wake Forest will host the NCAA Championships on November 20 and 22. Top-seeded Maryland will play fourth-seeded Princeton at 2 p.m. and second-seeded Virginia will face third-seeded North Carolina at 4:30 p.m. For complete championship info including ticket information please visit the NCAA's Championship website.
