WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest volleyball head coach Heather Kahl Holmes has announced the signing of two recruits for the class of 2014, Kylie Hargreaves and Kristin Grissom.
"We are thrilled to have Kylie and Kristin joining the Wake Forest Volleyball Family in 2010," said Kahl Holmes. "They are both outstanding volleyball players from the west coast who will add immediate depth to our hitter positions. They understand the commitment to excellence standard here at Wake Forest, both in academics and athletics."
Hargreaves is a six-foot outside hitter from Ladera Ranch, Calif., where attends Santa Margarita High School and plays for the Laguna Beach Club Team. She earned Prepvolleyball.com and Under Armor AVCA All-American honors as a junior in 2008 and was also named to the Orange County Register All County Team. Extending beyond Orange county, Hargreaves earned CIF Division 1-AA First Team honors while being named the 2008 CIF Division 1-AA Player of the Year. At two different points during the season last year, Hargreaves earned Orange County Register and ESPN on the Rise Player of the Week honors.
At the club level, Hargreaves has been a part of the Laguna Beach VC since 2004 and has participated in the Junior Olympics each of the last three years.
"Kylie is a six rotation Outside Hitter, who is physical at the net, and plays tenacious defense," said Kahl Holmes. "She has a powerful arm along with an arsenal of shots which tends to frustrate her opponent's defense. Kylie comes from a very successful club and high school background that only added to her knowledge and experience for the game."
Grissom is six-foot middle blocker from Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where she earned All-Baseline League honors each of the last two seasons, including first team honors in 2009. She was selected as the team captain for Etiwanda in '09 as well as captain of her club team, Club West, where she was considered for the Prep Volleyball Senior Aces award. Grissom also played a season for the Upland VC and Arsenal Volleyball Academy.
"Kristin is a very athletic middle, who is quick off the floor and moves with ease," Kahl Holmes said. "She is already touching 10'1" on her approach touch, which makes her an immediate threat offensively. She plays for Club West in California, where she is well trained by her coach, Kurt Vlasich. She is also a versatile player who can move to the pins if needed and has the ability to put up an incredible block on the right side."
