GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest seniors Kaley Fountain and Jill Hutchinson were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team, while freshman Jackie Logue was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team, as announced on Tuesday morning by the league office.
Fountain earned all-conference honors for the fourth time in her career, earning All-Freshman honors in 2006 and second team All-ACC accolades in 2007 and 2008. Hutchinson earned first team honors for the second time, also being named All-ACC First Team in 2007. Logue became the first Demon Deacon rookie to make the ACC All-Freshman team since Fountain in 2006.
After playing as a defender for the last two seasons, Fountain moved to the attack in her senior season and proved to be a force up front. The Austin, Texas, native has scored 10 goals on the season and added a team-high eight assists to rank second on the team with 28 points. Fountain ranks fifth in the league in points, tied for fifth in assists and tied for sixth in goals.
Hutchinson has had a record-setting senior season. The forward from Wayne, Pa., has scored 13 goals on the season, which ranks as the most single-season goals in school history. She has also contributed three assists to pace the team with 29 points. Hutchinson is third in the ACC in points and fourth in goals. With her 13 goals on the season, Hutchinson has also become the school's all-time leader in goals with 35 career scores.
One of the top freshman defenders in the conference, Logue has been an instrumental part in the Demon Deacon defense, playing in 19 games, including 17 starts. She has helped the team to 12 shutouts, which is tied for the league lead and also is tied for the most in a single season in school history. On the offensive end, Logue scored her first collegiate goal against Miami and also added an assist against NC State.
Florida State's Tiffany McCarty was named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Year, while Whitney Engen from North Carolina was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Victoria DiMartino of Boston College was the ACC Freshman of the Year and Florida State's Mark Krikorian brought home conference Coach of the Year honors.
Boston College and North Carolina led all conference schools with seven players each on the All-ACC and All-Freshman Teams. Wake Forest was one of four schools to place at least two players on the All-ACC First Team.
The 11th-ranked Demon Deacons are back in action on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., facing No. 17 Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. All games of the conference tournament will be shown live for free on ACC Select. For more information on the tournament, click here.
