WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest returns from a week-long holiday break to face Triad-rival UNC Greensboro on Monday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum. The game will be available on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Radio Network.
The Deacons are 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC following their 67-59 defeat of NC State on Sunday, Dec. 20. In leading Wake to its third straight ACC-opening win, Al-Farouq Aminu posted his seventh double-double of the year with 18 points and 13 rebounds, both of which were game-highs.
Guards C.J. Harris and Ishmael Smith scored 10 points apiece, and Smith added seven assists and a career-best two blocks. David Weaver came off the bench to tie his career-high with four blocks.
Following the win, Harris was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the third time in four weeks. Deacon classmate Ari Stewart earned the fourth league honor during that span. The freshman duo has been Wake Forest's top shooters from long range, combining to go 27-of-58 (46.6 percent) from three-point range. Stewart has made a three-pointer in all but one game.
UNC Greensboro comes in at 2-8 on the year following its 89-63 loss at Richmond on Tuesday, Dec. 22. The Spartans have dropped four straight since posting a win in their SoCon opener over Samford.
Wake Forest has won each of the four previous meetings in the all-time series with UNC Greensboro. The first-ever meeting in 1991 was UNCG's first game at the NCAA Division I level. The teams met four times during the 1990s but are playing for just the first time this decade.
Deacons To Play Fifth Road Game of Season
Wake Forest is the only team in the ACC, and one of just three in the Big Six conferences, who will play five road games before the New Year. Providence (Dec. 30) and Oregon State (Dec. 31) are the only others.
Next Up...
Wake Forest is set to ring in the New Year by hosting Richmond on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU. The Deacons will then host Xavier on Sunday, Jan. 3, in the inaugural Skip Prosser Classic. The game begins a 10-year series with the Musketeers.
