Wake Forest Announces 2009 Spring Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A game against the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer highlights the 2009 Wake Forest men's soccer spring schedule, announced on Wednesday by head coach Jay Vidovich.
Along with playing the Revolution, the Deacs will also face off with the Carolina RailHawks of the United Soccer League. Wake Forest will play two home games during the spring, playing host to the University of Denver and the University of Akron.
The 2009 spring schedule opens on Saturday, March 7, against the Revolution. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and will be played at Bryan Park in Greensboro. The Revs feature two former Deacs in midfielder Wells Thompson and defender Pat Phelan.
Tickets for Wake's games against the Revolution are $15 per ticket, with children three years old and under getting in free. Fans interested in purchasing tickets should visit carolinadynamo.com.
Wake will face off against former player on Saturday, March 21, when it meets the Carolina RailHawks at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Midfielder Steven Curfman, who played at Wake Forest from 2003-06, is a current member of the RailHawks.
The Deacs open the home portion of their spring schedule on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. (ET) against the University of Denver. Coached by former Wake assistant Bobby Muuss, the Pioneers finished the 2008 season with a 10-7-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1998 season.
The home spring schedule concludes on Friday, April 3, with a 7 p.m. (ET) match against Akron. The Zips advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and finished the year with a 17-2-4 record.
The final match of the spring occurs on Friday, April 17, at 4:30 p.m. (ET) when the Deacs take on 2008 national champion Maryland at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The game against the Terps will be used as a fundraising event for the Maryland-based Kicks Against Breast Cancer organization. The MLS match between D.C. United and the New England Revolution will follow the Wake-Maryland game.
