GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 9 seed Wake Forest women's basketball team will open play at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 5, facing eight-seed NC State at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South.
Wake Forest (18-10, 5-9) had a hot start to February, going 4-0 with conference wins over Miami, Georgia Tech and Clemson. But the team ended the season with four consecutive losses, due in part to injuries and illness for starters Corinne Groves and Courteney Morris.
Wake Forest senior Alex Tchangoue earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. The guard leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds.
NC State is 13-16 and 5-9 in the ACC, with two regular season wins over the Deacons. Shayla Fields leads the Wolfpack in scoring with 17.5 points and Lucy Ellison has the team high 6.9 rebounds per game. State ended the season with a 58-52 loss to Boston College, where freshman Bonae Holston posted a double-double.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to the quarterfinals to face Maryland at 3 p.m. on Friday.
