WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 21 Wake Forest women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 15 North Carolina in Wake's first home outdoor match of the season on Saturday. Wake Forest is now 8-4, 0-1 and the Tarheels are 10-4 and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Katarina Reveche and Christian Tara posted the only WFU doubles win of the day, topping Meg Fanjoy and Laura Reichert 8-5. No. 45 Sasha Kulikova and Sierra Poske faced nationally ranked No. 4 Sanaz Marand/Sophie Grabinski and chased the team through the pro-set but fell 9-7.
Christian Tara and Katarina Reveche fell at Nos. 4 and 5 to put the Tar Heels up 3-0. But Sasha Kulikova kept Wake Forest in the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 94 Katrina Tsang at No. 1. Sanaz Marand tripped Sierra Poske in the third set of the No. 2 match up to clinch the UNC win.
Wake Forest will next face the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. on March 10.
