Cavaliers Defeat Deacons 5-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped the first of its two weekend matches, falling 5-2 at Virginia on Saturday. The Demon Deacons will play their last regular season match on Sunday at Virginia Tech, entering with a 12-10, 3-7 record.
Virginia won the doubles point, taking victories across all three sets. The match came down to the wire at No. 2, where and Amanda Rales and Maggie Yahner played Wake's Aileen Davis and Emilee Malvehy in a tiebreaker. The Cavalier team completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 breaker score.
Freshman Ryan Cutillo added a point to the Deacon total when she quickly took down Neela Vaez at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-3 score. Senior Christian Tara added Wake's second point with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Sierra Poske played a challenging three-set match at No. 2 against 88th-ranked Jennifer Stevens. Stevens took a quick 6-1 win in the first set but Poske came back to take a 7-5 win in the next set. Stevens finished play with a 6-2 victory in the final set.
