WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Demon Deacon standouts Tim Duncan and Chris Paul were both named to the 2008-09 NBA All-Defensive teams on Thursday. Paul was named to the first team, while Duncan was a second team selection.
For Paul, who recently completed his third season in the NBA, the selection is his second straight appearance on the NBA All-Defensive Team. It is Paul's first-ever selection to the first team.
Paul, who was the only member of the first team to attend college, led the NBA in steals last season by averaging 2.8 per game. He also led the league with 11.0 assists per game.
Duncan is making his league-record 12th straight appearance on the NBA All-Defensive Team. He has earned the honor every year since joining the NBA in 1997-98. Duncan tops Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most NBA All-Defensive Team selections in league history.
Duncan finished fourth in the league in rebounding with 10.7 per game and 11th in blocked shots with 1.8 per game. He also averaged 19.3 points per game and ranked fourth in the NBA with 49 double-doubles.
Wake Forest was the only college to have multiple players named to the 2008-09 NBA All-Defensive Team.
