Wake Forest Summer League Update - August 7

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The collegiate summer baseball season is nearing a close and several Wake Forest players are in the playoffs with their respective teams. Here's an update on how they are doing.

Cape Cod Summer League

Junior outfielder Steven Brooks hit .273 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games played with Chatham over the summer. He tied for the team lead in doubles with seven and also had the second highest on-base percentage on the team at .402. Defensively, in 27 games in the outfield, Brooks made just one error.

Sophomore pitcher Michael Dimock has made nine appearances, including one start, with the Bourne Braves. Dimock has a 2-0 record with a 3.42 ERA in 23 2/3 innings pitched. Dimock averaged over a strikeout an inning, fanning 25 batters, while only walking five men. Bourne won the Western Division regular season title and will host its first playoff game on Saturday.

Sophomore infielder Shane Kroker played in four games with the Hyannis Mets. Kroker hit .200 with a run scored and an RBI.

Senior catcher Mike Murray has continued to swing a hot bat during the summer, hitting a team-best .347 with the Chatham Anglers. Murray also has one home run and five RBIs. He was selected to start at catcher for the Eastern Division All-Stars at the 2009 Cape Cod All-Star Game at Fenway Park. Murray also has a team-leading .447 on-base percentage. The Anglers open the playoffs on Friday in a single-elimination game against Orleans.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

Sophomore infielder/outfielder Carlos Lopez played and started eight games for the New Bedford Bay Sox. Lopez hit .235 with five runs scored and an RBI. He also hit two doubles over the summer.

Coastal Plain League

Junior pitcher Ryan McGrath made 21 relief appearances for the Wilmington Sharks. He finished the summer with a 3-4 record with one save and a 1.72 ERA. In 36 2/3 innings pitched, McGrath allowed 12 runs, seven of them earned, on 24 hits. He struck out 23 and opponents hit just .192 against him.

Florida Collegiate Summer League

Redshirt junior pitcher Ryan Bouton made a team-high 22 appearances with the Clermont Mavericks. He went 1-0 with a save and a 5.91 ERA during the summer. Clermont advanced to the championship game of the FCSL before being defeated by Leesburg. Bouton threw 2/3 of an inning in the championship game and allowed an unearned run on one hit, while striking out a batter.

Sophomore infielder Bentley Heyman started two games for Clermont and hit .500 with a run scored. Heyman was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases. He has returned to Wake Forest for the remainder of the summer to rehab an injury.

Redshirt junior outfielder Ryan Semeniuk played in 37 games and made 30 starts this summer for Clermont. Semeniuk hit .293 with a home run and 14 RBIs. He finished third on the team with eight stolen bases. Semeniuk started at first base for Clermont in the FCSL Championship Game and went 1-for-4.

Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League

Sophomore pitcher Gabe Feldman appeared in four games, including three starts, for the Bethesda Big Train and had a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA. In 16 innings of work, Feldman allowed six runs, four of them earned, on 12 hits. He struck out 14 and walked six. The Big Train won the 2009 Cal Ripken, Sr., Collegiate Baseball League championship by defeating the Maryland Redbirds 7-0.

Great South Collegiate Baseball League

Junior pitcher Mark Adzick posted a 5-1 record with a 2.72 ERA in eight appearances, including six starts, for the Kernersville Bulldogs. Adzick gave up 12 runs, 11 of them earned, on 29 hits in 36 1/3 innings. He finished the summer with 41 strikeouts and opposing batters hit .236 against him. The Bulldogs won their second straight Carolina-Virginia Collegiate title.

Junior pitcher Brandon Johnson finished the summer with a 4-0 record and a 2.80 ERA in 12 appearances, including six starts. Johnson threw 35 1/3 innings and allowed 14 runs, 11 of them earned, on 36 hits. He struck out 44 and only walked seven batters.

Junior outfielder Ryan Lloyd hit .276 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 22 games started with the Newnan Braves. Lloyd had a .569 slugging percentage and a .425 on-base percentage. During the Great South League tournament, Lloyd hit .364 with eight runs scored and a double.

Junior pitcher Eli Robins made six relief appearances for Kernersville and went 0-0 with a 7.20 ERA. Robins struck out six in five innings of work and opponents hit just .105 against him.
