WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The first day of the Wake Forest Fall Invitational concluded Friday evening. The first round of 16 in singles wrapped up with Duke's Reka Zsilinszka, Amanda Granson, Elizabeth Plotkin and Ellah Nze advancing, as well as Illinois' Leigh Finnegan, Illinois' Rachel White, Old Dominion's Nadine Fahoum and Wake Forest's Martina Pavelec advancing to the round of 8.
Two rounds of doubles were played on Friday. Duke's top-seeded Ellah Nze/Reka Zsilinszka advanced but the Blue Devils' second-seeded team of Monica Gorny and Amanda Granson was upset in the second round by Illinois' Chelcie Abajian and Megan Fudge (8-5). Illinois also advanced Marisa Lambropoulos and Breanne Smutko. Old Dominion's Nadine Fahoum and Diana Ivanova hold the remaining spot in the semifinals, which will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
