WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The third-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team is headed to Maryland for a couple of ranked road matches this weekend. On Saturday, September 26, Wake Forest will face defending national champion Maryland in College Park at 11 am and on Sunday the Deacons will face No. 20 American in DC.
Wake Forest will enter Saturday's match with a 6-1 record, including a recent 6-0 victory over Davidson in Winston-Salem last Sunday. The Demon Deacons are 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and they'll be looking to dirty-up No. 1 Maryland's spotless 9-0, 1-0 record.
American is 4-3 with a recent overtime loss to James Madison. American offers Eagle Vision to fans as a way to watch the game from your home computer.
Wake Forest faced both squads during the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Deacons knocked the Eagles out of the tournament in the round of 16 with a 7-1 victory at Wake Forest and fell 4-2 to Maryland in the NCAA Finals.
The Demon Deacons will return to Winston-Salem next weekend to host No. 2 North Carolina October 3 and Appalachian State on October 4.
