WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head coach Jeff Zinn has announced that Brett Ross, a former WFU men's tennis stand-out, will step into the men's tennis assistant coach position for the 2009-10 season.
Brett Ross, a native of Roswell, Ga., lettered with the Demon Deacons under the leadership of head coach Jeff Zinn from 2003-2006.
By the end of his four-year career at Wake Forest, Ross had solidified several spots in the Demon Deacon record book, including ranks in the top 10 for career singles victories (97), career doubles victories (88), season doubles victories (23) and season singles victories (30). Ross led the Deacons in 2005 with 25 singles wins and also led the team in doubles in 2004 and 2005 with partner Derrick Spice.
Since his 2006 graduation, Ross has been splitting his time between coaching and playing on the ATP tour. On tour, Ross qualified for several Challenger events and cracked the Top 500 in doubles rankings and broke 600 in singles.
On the coaching front, Ross began teaching at the Tennis Academy of the South in Georgia, where he worked with high-level juniors.
"We are so happy as a department to have Brett back. He is so likable and brings a wealth of knowledge back to us from playing on the Pro Tour for these past few years," said WFU head coach Jeff Zinn.
"Brett was also a fine student during his time here at Wake Forest and will be a good mentor in that respect. He was a standout player for the Deacs and we have no out he will be a standout coach for us also."
Ross replaces Chris Brandi, who served as assistant coach for one year. Prior to Brandi, Andrew Simpson, also a former Deacon tennis player, was with Wake Forest for three seasons.
