PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Three former Wake Forest women's soccer players were drafted in the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer Draft, held on Friday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
"It's a great acknowledgement of the talent that we had on our team last season," head coach Tony da Luz said. "I'm glad the WPS coaches recognized the talent that Kaley, Jill and Caitlin have. They've earned this opportunity. I'm sure that they will be successful in their professional careers because they all have a great work ethic and passion for the game."
Kaley Fountain was the first Demon Deacon selected, taken with the ninth pick of the second round by FC Gold Pride. Jill Hutchinson was drafted by the Atlanta Beat with the first pick of the fourth round, while Caitlin Farrell was selected by the Philadelphia Independence with the second pick of the seventh round.

A 2009 All-ACC First Team choice, Hutchinson ranked in the top five in the ACC in both goals and points. She was named a third team All-American by Top Drawer Soccer and was also selected to the NSCAA All-South Region team. Hutchinson is Wake's all-time leading goal scorer with 36 goals and is also tied for the school record in career points with 85.
Farrell anchored a Wake Forest defense that rewrote the school record books in 2009. A defender from Ft. Myers, Fla., Farrell contributed to a school-record 15 shutouts during her senior season. On the offensive end, Farrell added a goal and an assist. During her career, Farrell played in 90 games, with 82 starts.
