
Deacs Kick Off ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Carolina Regional Thursday with Kayla Duncan and Ryann Cutillo reaching the doubles Round of 16, and Anna Mydlowska winning her way into the main draw.
The doubles team of Duncan and Cutillo advanced to the Round of 16, with an 8-2 win over Amanda Murray and Katherine Oudin of Furman. They will face Mikayla Rogers and Nitooli Wilkins of UNC Greensboro tomorrow.
Anna Mydlowska won two rounds of qualifying singles, shutting out North Carolina A&T's Victoria Austin 6-0, 6-0 before topping Gardner-Webb's Jenny Lunde 6-2, 6-1, to earn a spot in the main draw. She is set to take on Clemson's Nelly Ciolkowski, a No. 9 seed, in the first round tomorrow.
In first round main draw singles action tomorrow, Emilee Malvehy will take on Caroline Newman (College of Charleston), and No. 34 Martina Pavelec, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, will face Coastal Carolina's Diana Mortlock. Kathryn Talbert will open with No. 24 Nadine Fahoum of Duke, while Ryann Cutillo will play Elon freshman Jordan Johnston. No. 79 Kayla Duncan rounds out the Wake Forest singles players with a match against Jennifer Ansari of Appalachian State.
