Campanaro Shifts To The Backfield
Redshirt freshman Michael Campanaro shifted from his wide out position into the backfield and finished the day with a career-high 67 yards on a career-high 19 carries.
Coming into the day, Campanaro had eight carries on the season for 51 yards.
His 19 carries today was the second-highest total by a Demon Deacon rusher this season.
Price Continues To Set Freshman Quarterback Records
With 69 passing yards today, freshman Tanner Price set the single-season school record for most passing yards by a true-freshman.
Price now has 1,125 passing yards on the season, breaking David Webber's record at 1,070 yards in 1978.
Price also eclipsed Webber's record of most completions by a true-freshman in one season. He was 9-of-11 on the day and now has 110 completions on the year. That bested Webber's mark of 101 in 1978.
Newman Keeps The Streak Alive
Sophomore Jimmy Newman made a 19-yard field at the 12:35 mark of the second-quarter, marking his ninth-consecutive made field. That is the fourth-longest streak in school history.
Newman has made 9 straight field goals since missing his first of the year. He trails Sam Swank who made 11-straight from 10/8/05 - 11/12/05.
Newman is now 4-of-5 on field goal attempts against NC State in his career.
Okoro Has Wilson's Number
Redshirt-sophomore Kenny Okoro intercepted Russell Wilson for the second time in two games. He made a nice one-handed grab on Wilson's 4th and 9 pass late in the third quarter.
Okoro also intercepted Wilson in the endzone last season with 2:02 to play, sealing the 30-24 victory for the Deacs.
The interception was Okoro's second of the season and the fifth of his career.
Longest scoring drive
The Wake Forest scoring drive in the second quarter, that resulted in a 19-yard Jimmy Newman field, covered 57 yards in 15 plays over 7:57. That marked the longest scoring drive in terms of time of possession and plays this season.
Campanaro rushed seven times for 32 yards and also caught an 18-yard pass on the drive. He accounted for 50 of the 57 yards.
Wilber Keeps Climbing The Charts
Redshirt-junior Kyle Wilber finished the day with two tackles and one sack. He is now just 1.5 tackles for loss away from moving into 8th in school history for most tackles for a loss in one season. He has 14.5 tackles for loss this season.
Wilber is also now just one sack shy of moving into the top-10 on the school's career sacks list. His sack today was the 10th of his career.
With the loss
Wake Forest is now 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the ACC.
Jim Grobe's record at Wake Forest is 61-59 and his overall record 94-92-1.
Wake Forest has lost eight straight games for the first time in the Grobe era and for the first time since 1978.
Wake has now lost five straight road games.
Miscellaneous
NC State won the toss and deferred to the second half.
Wake Forest has now lost the coin toss the last seven games.
Redshirt-senior Hunter Haynes finished the day tied for the team-high with six tackles. In his career against NC State, Haynes made a total of 17 tackles with two sacks.
Redshirt-freshman Duran Lowe tied his career-high with six tackles.
Redshirt-senior had 10 carries for 39 yards today. He is now just 41 rushing yards shy of moving into 9th on the WFU all-time rushing yards list.
Wake Forest had its highest time of possession total this season, holding the ball for 34:56. That topped its previous high of 31:44 against Duke.
Wake's opponents have made 23 of 25 field goals dating back to last year.
The Demon Deacons have given up 387 points this season, which sets a new school record.
Wake has also allowed 51 touchdowns on the year, which is a school record.
