WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team had one of its best days of the fall season as Demon Deacon players went a perfect 6-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles on the first day of the Wake Forest Invitational held at the Indoor Tennis Center Friday.
The event was set up similar to a dual match with one team taking on another in singles or doubles, but with the individual results being the only ones that counted. Wake Forest swept Furman in singles and Tennessee in doubles, and took two of three doubles matches from NC State.
The doubles team of Katherine Talbert and Kayla Duncan earned wins over Volunteer and Wolfpack opponents, while the duos of Martina Pavelec and Ryann Cutillo, and Cutillo and Malvehy also picked up victories.
No. 34 Pavelec, Talbert, Malvehy, Cutillo and Anna Mydlowska all posted straight-set singles victories over their opponents from Furman and No. 79 Duncan outlasted the Paladin's Katherine Oudin 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Action will continue tomorrow in a shortened session as Wake Forest will take on Furman and LSU in doubles starting at 8 a.m.
