Women's Tennis Goes Perfect 6-0 at WFU Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team had another strong day at its home tournament as the Demon Deacons won all six of their doubles matches on Saturday in the Wake Forest Invitational held at the Indoor Tennis Center. Wake Forest has gone a combined 16-1 in singles and doubles in the event, and Demon Deacons Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert rank first and second, respectively, in the overall tournament standings.
At the top doubles position, Kathryn Talbert and Kayla Duncan took down Furman's Katherine Oudin and Margaret Boyette of Furman 8-3, before winning a hard-fought match against LSU's Kaitlin Burns and Whitney Wolff 8-6. The duo improved to a perfect 4-0 in doubles in the event.
Martina Pavelec teamed with Anna Mydlowska to take down Jenny Porter and Olivia Maurice of Furman, before switching partners and playing with Emilee Malvehy in a 8-1 win over LSU's Yvette Vlaar and Ariel Morton.
Cutillo and Malvehy defeated the team of Michele Stanford and Amanda Murray (Furman) 8-2, and Mydlowska and Cutillo earned an 8-1 win over LSU's Hayley Everett and Kylie Adamek.
Duncan leads the overall standings with 12 points, with Talbert close behind in second with 11 points. NC State's Sanaa Bhambri and Sandhya Nagaraj are tied for third with nine points.
The tournament leader board is calculated by awarding players three points for a win at No. 1 doubles or No. 1 and No. 2 singles, two points for a win at No. 2 doubles or No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and one point for a win at No. 3 doubles or No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Deacons will resume play at 11:30 tomorrow as they take on Tennessee in singles, before facing LSU in singles action at 1:30 p.m.
