CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four Demon Deacons scored in double figures as Wake Forest took down Boston College 60-56 in Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon.
Wake Forest improves to 15-10 and 6-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, moving up to fifth place in leagues standings. Boston College is 14-11 and 5-5.
Brittany Waters led the Deacons with 19 points and Secily Ray led on boards with seven caroms to pair with her 17 points. Sandra Garcia also put up 10 for the Deacs and Camille Collier added 11.
Stefanie Murphy had 19 points for the Eagles and Carolyn Swords had the game-high 14 rebounds.
The victory marks the first time since the Wake Forest/Boston College series began in 2006 that the Deacons have taken a win in Boston.
Boston College held a 23-22 lead at the half and started the final 20 minutes on a 6-0 run. At 16:19 Secily Ray added the first two of the Demon Deacons' 21 free throw baskets in the second half to chip away at the BC lead (31-26).
Wake Forest took the lead at 9:19 with two more charity stripe buckets from Ray (37-36). Ray picked up the rebound from Jacklyn Thomas' shot on the BC possession and Collier hit a floater to put the Deacons in front 39-36. Wake Forest retained the lead for the rest of the contest.
With 1:24 to play Mickel Picco hit a deep 3-pointer to cut the Deacons lead to 52-50. Ray followed with a botched layup but picked her own rebound and converted to put the Deacons back in a two-possession advantage.
A Kerri Shields hit a 3 with 17 seconds to play, but a couple of free throws from Garcia sealed the Wake Forest victory at 60-56 with 10 seconds to play.
Wake Forest will continue play in the ACC on Thursday when it hosts North Carolina on at 7 p.m.
