
Wake Forest Falls to UNC 65-59 in Overtime

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest and North Carolina played to extra minutes for the first time in the series history on Thursday evening in Winston-Salem, but the Tar Heels edged the Deacons in the final five minutes to take a 59-65 victory at the Lawrence Joel Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.
Wake Forest falls to 15-11 and 6-6 in the ACC and North Carolina improves to 17-8 and 5-6.
Wake Forest sophomore Secily Ray led the game with 23 points and Cetera DeGraffenreid had the Tar Heel's best 15 points. Wake Forest freshman Sandra Garcia led on the boards with 10 rebounds.
The Demon Deacons shot 40 percent from the field in the first half, but then struggled with 23 percent shooting in the second half. In overtime the Deacons went a frustrating 1-for-8.
Wake Forest led 33-25 at the end of the first half with Secily Ray netting nearly half of the team's points (15).
The Tar Heels held Wake Forest scoreless for 10 minutes in the second half, and chipped away at the Deacon advantage. A layup from DeGraffenreid at the eight second mark tied the score at 56-56 and sent the game into extra minutes.
UNC started overtime on a 6-0 run and the Deacons were unable to equalize the score. Courteney Morris hit a 3-point basket with 57 seconds to play to cut the UNC lead to 62-59 but UNC finished 3-for-4 from the free throw line to end the game.
Wake Forest will break from conference action on Monday to host NC Central at 7 p.m.
