No. 1 Tar Heels Defeat Deacons, 5-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sasha Kulikova and Martina Pavelec took wins at the top of the singles lineup, but top-ranked North Carolina came up with a 5-2 win over the Wake Forest women's tennis team in Chapel Hill on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tar Heels (17-3, 4-0) opened play by taking three doubles wins. Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis played the closest match for the Demon Deacons (7-9, 1-3), challenging 27th-ranked Katrina Tsang and Sanaz Marand to an 8-5 contest at No. 1.
Martina Pavelec led the Deacons at No. 1 singles where she upset 32nd-ranked Sanaz Marand 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. Sasha Kulikova also topped her Tar Heel opponent, defeating Jelena Durisic at No. 2 6-3, 3-6, 1-0.
Wake Forest will return to Winston-Salem to host Florida State on Friday at 3 p.m. and Miami on Sunday at 12 p.m.
