Schilawski Nets Hat Trick | Opara Scores the Game-WinnerFormer Wake Forest men's soccer players Ike Opara and Zack Schilawski scored the first goals of their professional careers over the weekend. Here's a look at how other Deacs in the MLS fared.
Defender Lyle Adams did not play in DC United's 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Union.
Midfielder Corben Bone was available as a substitute but did not play in Chicago's 2-1 loss to San Jose.
Midfielder Brian Carroll started and played the entire 90 minutes, attempting one shot for Columbus in its 2-2 tie with FC Dallas.
Midfielder Sam Cronin was available as a substitute but did not play in Toronto FC's 4-1 loss at New England.
Midfielder Austin da Luz did not play in New York's 2-0 loss to Chivas USA.
Goalkeeper Will Hesmer started and played the entire 90 minutes in Columbus' 2-2 draw with FC Dallas. Hesmer made five saves in the game and now has eight saves on the season and a 1-0-1 record in goal.
Midfielder Michael Lahoud entered as a substitute for Chivas USA in the 76th minute in the team's 2-0 win against New York.
Defender Ike Opara started, played the full 90 minutes and scored the game-winning goal for San Jose in its 2-1 win at Chicago. Opara scored on a header in the 81st minute for the first goal of his professional career.
Defender Pat Phelan entered as a substitute for New England in the 74th minute in the team's 4-1 win over Toronto FC.
Defender James Riley started and played the full 90 minutes in Seattle's 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake.
Forward Zack Schilawski started, played the entire 90 minutes and scored three goals in New England's 4-1 win over Toronto FC. Schilawski scored his three goals over an 11 minute stretch, scoring in the 47th, 51st and 58th minutes. His second goal of the game was the eventual game winner. The three goals were the first of his professional career. The hat trick was the first by a rookie in the MLS in almost seven years and the third fastest hat trick in league history.
Midfielder Wells Thompson entered as a substitute in the 68th minute in Colorado's 1-0 loss at Kansas City.
